Bundling and Bundles January 17, 2009

Today was a lazy day and, suddenly, I really want to goto the library. It’s bitterly cold outside, but both dry and hot inside. Grama’s hair keeps standing on end from her red wool hat. Every time she touches me, I get shocked.
I feel ridiculous when this happens. Below is the bundle of Christmas cards I never mailed. They are all addressed and written in and doodled on, so it’s pathetic that they are still lonely in my bedroom. First I couldn’t get to the post office, then I had no money, then I couldn’t get to the post office, and now I still have no money. Those poor cards. In the event I finally mail them, and by chance some of you recieve one over a month late, please, have pity on me. They WILL get mailed, but I only humilate myself because I want people to know I cared. Happy Christmas in January.

A person could dedicate an entire blog to Ohio weather. I heard something about a wind advisory for today, but I’m not sure if it’s that official. Weather.com told me that the winds were around 20 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. That’s breezy.
Last night I dreamed that my brother and I were in a department store,

deciding if we could reasonably do something illegal. We were looking at the posters; I knew something was up when the paper tubes sounded like jackhammers. Around 4:30 am, I woke and heard this flappy, banging noise. It was a whirlwind outside, raining and moaning and rattling my windows. I thought our screen door came loose and was pounding on the siding. Nope. Not that. The aluminum trim stuff from our roof had torn loose in the night, and it was paddling against the building – of course, right at my window.
Gosh that was loud. My dad and brother were disturbed shortly after. I found a big crack in my window too. I haven’t noticed it before, so I assume it’s from the aluminum beating last night. On a lighter note, my Grama didn’t seem to mind. I don’t think she heard a thing. ha.

Ohio is funny like that. We lost power at church towards the end of Sunday school. Props to Jay for keeping a cool head. I guess there is a messed up transformer? Who knows? I blame the weather. The cool thing was that the whole congregation gathered in the narthex (the big hallway outside the worship center) and Pastor Ed spoke to everyone from the balcony. It was impromptu and heart-warming. We all sang Amazing Grace together, and it never sounded so beautiful.
The best part of church was walking back to the car – the wind picked up and blew both of Grama’s earrings off. Hanlei saw one of them go, so he chased it and found the other one. haha. I dont care who you are, that’s funny.

Ohio weather is so unpredictable, that it must be notorious in other states too. This morning, I woke to find 2-3 in. of snow blanketing our parking lot. The roads were largely unplowed, and by 11:30am, there was at least 8 inches thickly clinging to everything. Our bus driver told us that one of the main highways closed earlier. It’s surreal to look out the window and see the leaves on trees covered in snow – even some of the leaves were green.
After school let out, the main roads were plowed reasonably, it stopped snowing, and the pavement was covered in water – Ohio sky, you are eccentric. You melted most of our snow, and I suppose the puddles will freeze for tomorrow. Nice weather one week, mini-blizzards the next. Welcome to Ohio.
